Quick answer
Private nameservers for a domain associated with Hover.com require registrar host registration, working DNS service and matching zone records. Creating an A record alone does not complete the setup.
Applies to
For the owner or an authorized editor of the website/account named in this article. Confirm the installed product version and permissions. Interactive Online hosting access does not automatically grant an application administrator login.
Steps
- Confirm the current registrar, reseller permissions and provider-supplied DNS server addresses. Use private nameservers only when that DNS service is actually configured for your domain.
- At the current registrar, register the intended nameserver hostnames and required address/glue information. Add the matching authoritative DNS records through the DNS service's supported process.
- Only after the destination DNS serves the complete zone, update the domain's nameserver delegation. Test both nameserver resolution and authoritative answers for the website, mail and verification records.
Check the result
Check registered nameserver hosts, their addresses, delegation and the returned zone contents independently.
Troubleshooting and support
If the old registrar menu is gone or host registration is unavailable, ask the current registrar/reseller. Do not substitute the website IP for a DNS-server address without confirmation.
Contact support from the owning account with the domain, product/version, exact error, time/time zone and redacted evidence. Exclude credentials, session URLs, payment details and private customer records. Confirm any separate application-support scope.
