Quick answer
A database user is a separate login for database access. It must also be assigned to the intended database before the application can use it.
Applies to
For Interactive Online cPanel customers with permission to manage the selected service. The tool must be enabled on your plan. Open the correct service from the Client Area before changing anything. The preserved video shows an older interface. In cPanel 120 and later, Manage My Databases replaces the older MySQL Databases label. Database and user names may include an account prefix.
Steps
- Open Manage My Databases and find MySQL Users or Add New User.
- Enter a suitable user name and strong unique password. Store the complete prefixed user name and password securely.
- Create the user, then assign it to the required database with the application's needed privileges.
Check the result
Confirm the user appears in Current Users and has the correct database assignment. Test through the application without printing its configuration.
Troubleshooting and support
If creation succeeds but authentication fails, check the full name and assignment as well as the password.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
