Quick answer
The preserved video disables encryption for POP. Use it as a historical interface reference; update an existing legacy configuration to the service's supported TLS settings instead.
Applies to
For an existing mailbox you are authorized to use in Thunderbird. For Interactive Online hosted mail, copy the exact secure settings from Email Accounts > Connect Devices. Account Hub and older Account Settings setup flows differ by Thunderbird version.
Steps
- Preserve required local mail and record the existing account type, server names and retention behavior. Do not remove the account to change only its connection security.
- Get the mailbox's current secure settings from the actual provider. In Thunderbird Account Settings, select that account's Server Settings and update the incoming TLS/port pair, commonly 995 for POP with SSL/TLS.
- Review the separately assigned Outgoing Server (SMTP) entry and use its supported encryption and authenticated sending settings. Do not select None or approve a certificate exception to imitate the old lesson.
- Save and test. Use the linked secure-setup guide if you need to add a distinct new account rather than update this legacy configuration.
Check the result
Send to and receive from a controlled external address. Confirm the correct SMTP identity and the intended server-copy/local-retention behavior.
Troubleshooting and support
For authentication errors, check the complete mailbox address and saved credentials. For a certificate mismatch, use the supplied secure hostname or contact support; do not disable certificate validation.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
