How to create email filters in Gmail (legacy Flash tutorial) Print

  • 0

Quick answer

A Gmail filter applies actions to matching mail. Review the search results before applying broad forwarding, deletion or archive actions.

Applies to

For the owner or authorized user of the Google Account. Google-hosted mail, contacts and chat are separate from an Interactive Online cPanel mailbox. The preserved tutorial shows an earlier interface.

Steps

  1. Confirm the Google Account, intended task and scope. Preserve an export before a bulk import, deletion or migration.
  2. Use search options to define narrow criteria, review matching messages and choose Create filter. Inspect each action and any option to apply it to existing messages before saving.
  3. Reopen the affected list, message or setting and confirm the actual result. For a sent message, inspect Sent and check receipt with a controlled recipient.

Check the result

Confirm the intended message, record or setting changed in the correct account. For imports/exports, inspect representative contents rather than relying only on a completion notice.

Troubleshooting and support

If the control is missing, check the current Google product, account permissions and organization policy. Interactive Online cannot recover a Google password or enable a feature that Google has removed.

Contact support from the owning account with the domain, product/version, exact error, time/time zone and redacted evidence. Exclude credentials, session URLs, payment details and private customer records. Confirm any separate application-support scope.
