Quick answer
Gmail filters act on messages matching a saved search. Test the search and choose narrow actions before applying a rule to existing conversations.
Applies to
For the intended Google/Gmail account. Google controls its login, settings and recovery. An Interactive Online cPanel login does not grant access to a Google account, and Gmail is separate from cPanel-hosted mail. The video shows an older interface.
Steps
- In Gmail, open the search options and enter the intended sender, recipient, subject or other criteria.
- Run the search and inspect representative matching and nonmatching messages. Avoid filtering solely by a display name when an exact address is needed.
- Choose Create filter, select the intended actions and review whether to apply them to existing matches. Do not select Never send it to Spam merely because an old demonstration does.
- Save the filter and manage it through Settings > See all settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses.
Check the result
Send or identify a controlled matching message and confirm the intended label or handling. Confirm unrelated mail remains unaffected.
Troubleshooting and support
If valid mail is moved or removed, inspect the exact criteria and other overlapping filters. A saved search result is not proof of how all future messages will be classified.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
