How to create custom error pages in cPanel Print

  • 4

Quick answer

Use Advanced > Error Pages for server-generated errors when the tool is enabled. A WordPress or other application may generate its own 404 page instead.

Applies to

For Interactive Online cPanel customers with permission to manage the selected service. The tool must be enabled on your plan. Open the correct service from the Client Area before changing anything. The preserved video shows an older interface.

Steps

  1. Open Advanced > Error Pages and select the correct domain if prompted.
  2. Choose the status page, such as 404, and write a short explanation with a useful link back to the site. Avoid exposing server paths or diagnostic details.
  3. Save the page. If the site uses a CMS or custom ErrorDocument rules, check that system's error handling as well.

Check the result

Request a known nonexistent URL. Confirm the intended page appears and that the response still has the appropriate error status rather than a misleading 200.

Troubleshooting and support

If the default or CMS page appears, identify which layer handles the request before repeatedly changing the cPanel page.

If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
