How to use the Index Manager in cPanel Print

  • 4

Quick answer

Choose No Indexing in Advanced > Indexes to stop directory listings when no index page exists. This does not prevent someone from opening a file whose URL they know.

Applies to

For Interactive Online cPanel customers with permission to manage the selected service. The tool must be enabled on your plan. Open the correct service from the Client Area before changing anything. The preserved video shows an older interface.

Steps

  1. Open Advanced > Indexes and locate the intended website directory. Check that you are not changing the wrong domain's folder.
  2. Open its settings and select No Indexing when a file listing should not be public. Standard and Fancy are listing formats; neither is a rule about whether image files are present.
  3. Save the setting. Use Directory Privacy or application authorization when the files themselves need restricted access.

Check the result

Visit the folder URL without an index document and confirm that the file list is unavailable. Check a known file URL separately to understand the difference.

Troubleshooting and support

If a listing remains, check inherited settings, the real document root and the server handling that hostname. Do not remove a working index page to test on a live site.

If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
