Quick answer
A simple product represents one item without selectable variations. Prepare the factual product information first, save a draft, then verify the customer purchase flow before making it public. The product editor and available fields can differ with your WooCommerce version and extensions.
Before you start
Use an authorized store role and confirm the intended site. Gather the approved name, description, price, SKU, images, stock policy, tax classification, weight, dimensions, and shipping requirements. Do not invent product claims or copy another store's photography.
Steps
- Open Products in WordPress and add a new product. Enter the name and useful description, then choose Simple product in the product-data controls. Keep it as a draft while you configure it.
- Enter the regular price and any approved sale dates. Set a unique SKU and inventory behavior. For a physical item, supply the shipping measurements and classification used by your configured shipping methods.
- Add a clear main image and supporting gallery images. Choose the correct product category and write concise alternative text where it helps explain the image. Review the short description beside the purchase controls.
- Preview the product at desktop and phone widths. Check the price, availability, quantity control, shipping information, and add-to-cart behavior on a protected test copy. Publish only after the store owner approves the listing.
Verify the result
The product page, cart line, checkout total, and test order should agree on the item, quantity, price, and applicable delivery options. Record the product ID so future changes target the same listing.
Troubleshooting and recovery
If the purchase button is missing, check publication status, price, stock, catalog visibility, and theme or extension restrictions. If you changed the wrong product, restore that product's recorded fields rather than restoring the entire store database.
