Restore one WordPress page revision without replacing the whole site Print

Quick answer

Use page revisions when you need an earlier saved version of one page or post. A revision is narrower than a full database restore, but it may not include every setting stored by a page builder or custom extension.

Before you start

Record the page ID, current URL, editor, and latest content. Save a copy of the current version before restoring anything. Confirm that the earlier revision belongs to the exact page rather than a similarly named draft.

Steps

  1. Open the page in its proper editor and locate Revisions in the page or post settings. The current revision interface differs between recent WordPress versions, so use the version-appropriate help below.
  2. Compare the selected revision with the current content. Check dates and authors and identify the specific text or blocks you need to recover.
  3. Restore the approved revision, or copy only the missing material into the current draft if the whole earlier page would remove newer approved changes.
  4. Preview the page and check navigation, buttons, images, embedded content, and phone layout. Publish the intended result and inspect its actual public URL.

Verify the result

The missing content should return without removing later content that must remain. Check any page-builder-specific settings or templates separately because their history can be managed outside normal post revisions.

Troubleshooting and recovery

If there are no useful revisions, stop before replacing the site database. Ask support to inspect backups for a selective page recovery while preserving newer orders, users, and content.
