How to add a record with the DNS Zone Editor in cPanel Print

  • 4

Quick answer

Add an A record at the authoritative DNS provider to point a hostname to an IPv4 address. Editing a nonauthoritative cPanel zone does not change public DNS.

Applies to

For Interactive Online cPanel customers with permission to manage the selected service. The tool must be enabled on your plan. Open the correct service from the Client Area before changing anything. The preserved video shows an older interface.

Steps

  1. Confirm the exact hostname, intended IP and authoritative nameservers. Preserve the existing record and TTL.
  2. When cPanel is authoritative, open Domains > Zone Editor, select Manage and add the A record with its full name, TTL and IPv4 address.
  3. Check for conflicting records at the same name and save. Keep mail, verification and unrelated records intact.

Check the result

Query the authoritative DNS servers for that exact name, then test the website with the correct hostname and HTTPS certificate.

Troubleshooting and support

A correct A record does not establish virtual-host or certificate configuration. Check cached answers and the actual DNS provider if the change is not visible.

If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
