Quick answer
Saved PuTTY sessions store connection and terminal settings. Confirm the hostname/port after loading one, and keep credential/key material outside ordinary session names or notes.
Applies to
For PuTTY on your own Windows computer and an account with authorized SSH access. Use the hosting service's assigned hostname, port and user. An ordinary cPanel account is not a root login; your service may use a nonstandard SSH port.
Steps
- Enter the intended hostname, SSH port and allowed settings, then name the session under Saved Sessions and choose Save.
- To reuse it, select the exact saved session and choose Load before Open. Check the populated host and port.
- To remove an obsolete saved configuration, select that session and choose Delete. Keep the connection information needed for recovery elsewhere securely.
Check the result
Reload the entry and confirm the expected settings. Deleting a saved entry does not delete the hosting account.
Troubleshooting and support
If similarly named entries cause confusion, use clear account/server labels and verify the target before connecting.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
