Use Claude Cowork for website content and project work Print

Quick answer

Claude Cowork can help organize website content, prepare assets, and work with authorized tools and files. It should not be assumed to have the same deployment setup as Claude Code. For a website, begin with a dedicated project folder and a clear distinction between drafting content and publishing it.

Cowork and ordinary Claude conversations

Anthropic is rolling out combined chat/Cowork behavior. Some accounts no longer show a separate mode selector. Use the available capabilities and permissions to choose the workflow. Local file, browser, and local-connector operations may require the desktop app as an online bridge; a cloud conversation does not independently inherit your computer access.

Before you start

Use the current official Claude application and check which local folders, connectors, browser tools, or connected-computer features your account exposes. Interfaces and plan availability change. Confirm any hosting access independently; a Cowork session does not add SSH to a hosting plan.

What to do

  1. Create a folder containing only the approved website material, such as page outlines, images, and a sanitized content export.
  2. Ask Cowork to inventory that folder and propose a content plan. Explain the business facts, preferred wording, and what it must not invent.
  3. Review generated copy, filenames, image rights, and any proposed deletions. Keep source assets and a separate copy of important files.
  4. Publish through the actual CMS, a reviewed connector, or your normal deployment workflow. Treat public publication as a separate action from local drafting.

Check the result

Compare the published page with the approved draft and check headings, links, image descriptions, and mobile presentation. Record where the final editable source now lives.

If something does not work

If a task needs shell commands or repository tests, use a coding environment that supports them rather than assuming Cowork has that access. Do not expose unrelated personal folders or customer records to complete a content task.
