WooCommerce shipping zones and address tests Print

Quick answer

Shipping zones match customer destinations to the delivery methods you offer. A customer uses the first matching zone, so specific zones must be considered before broader regions. Adding a zone without a usable method can leave customers unable to check out.

Before you start

Write down the regions you serve, exclusions, rates, free-shipping conditions, product classes, and any carrier integration. Use staging and realistic sample addresses that contain no customer personal information.

Steps

  1. Review WooCommerce Settings, General and confirm the selling and shipping locations. Open Settings, Shipping and record the existing zone order and methods before editing.
  2. Add or edit the most specific zone and choose its country, state, or postal coverage. Add the intended shipping methods and configure their actual charges and conditions.
  3. Place broader zones after narrower ones and decide what should happen for destinations outside all defined zones. Do not silently promise worldwide delivery through an unrestricted fallback.
  4. Test one address inside each zone, one overlapping address, and one excluded address. Include representative product classes and cart values around any free-shipping threshold.

Verify the result

The cart and checkout should show the expected method name and amount for each address. Confirm any tax treatment and fulfillment destination against the approved business rules.

Troubleshooting and recovery

If no method appears, verify the complete address, zone order, shipping-location restriction, product shipping requirement, and method conditions. If a carrier extension is involved, preserve its sanitized rate request and response for support.
