Quick answer
Create folders in the correct mailbox using webmail or a supported client. Verify server synchronization before moving important mail.
Applies to
Historical reference for the retired Windows Mail application, not current new Outlook. Microsoft ended Windows Mail, Calendar and People support on December 31, 2024. Preserve local data and move to a supported client; the old app is not a reliable current sending/receiving workflow.
Steps
- Confirm the mailbox, parent folder and whether the new folder should be server-side or local-only.
- Create it with the supported application's folder controls and choose a clear name.
- Move a controlled test message and confirm the destination before any large move.
Check the result
Check the folder and test message in webmail and another authorized IMAP client where synchronization is intended.
Troubleshooting and support
If the folder is absent elsewhere, inspect the actual storage location and subscriptions. A local folder is not an independent server backup.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
