Configuring an IMAP email account in Windows 10 Mail Print

  • 4

Quick answer

Use secure IMAP/SMTP in a supported replacement client for your cPanel mailbox. Do not rely on the retired Windows Mail add-account flow.

Applies to

Historical reference for the retired Windows Mail application, not current new Outlook. Microsoft ended Windows Mail, Calendar and People support on December 31, 2024. Preserve local data and move to a supported client; the old app is not a reliable current sending/receiving workflow.

Steps

  1. Preserve required local data and obtain the exact secure settings from Email Accounts > Connect Devices.
  2. Add the existing mailbox to a supported client using its full email address, incoming/outgoing hostnames and password.
  3. Select IMAP and the supported TLS settings, commonly 993 for incoming and 465/TLS or 587/STARTTLS for authenticated SMTP.

Check the result

Send and receive controlled tests and confirm expected server-folder synchronization.

Troubleshooting and support

A cPanel password is not the mailbox password. For a certificate mismatch, use the supplied secure hostname or contact support rather than bypassing the warning.

If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
