Quick answer
Recreate useful folder favorites in a supported mail client. A favorite points to the real folder and does not provide a separate copy of its messages.
Applies to
Historical reference for the retired Windows Mail application, not current new Outlook. Microsoft ended Windows Mail, Calendar and People support on December 31, 2024. Preserve local data and move to a supported client; the old app is not a reliable current sending/receiving workflow.
Steps
- Record the mailbox and full folder paths used by the old favorites.
- Open a supported client with the correct mailbox and add shortcuts to the existing synchronized folders.
- Remove a favorite using the shortcut-removal action, keeping it separate from Delete Folder.
Check the result
Confirm each shortcut opens the intended folder and that removing one leaves the real folder in place.
Troubleshooting and support
If a folder is missing, check mailbox synchronization/subscriptions and local-only data before recreating a similarly named folder.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
