Quick answer
Preserve messages before removing a folder during mail-client migration. Recovery from Trash depends on the provider and retention; it is not guaranteed.
Applies to
Historical reference for the retired Windows Mail application, not current new Outlook. Microsoft ended Windows Mail, Calendar and People support on December 31, 2024. Preserve local data and move to a supported client; the old app is not a reliable current sending/receiving workflow.
Steps
- Verify local and server copies of the required messages before removing anything.
- Connect a supported client or open the correct mailbox in webmail and confirm the exact folder/account.
- Use the supported application's folder-removal controls only for the intended folder, then inspect the result and available recovery folders.
Check the result
Check the intended folder's removal and confirm required messages are still recoverable in the verified copy.
Troubleshooting and support
If messages were removed accidentally, stop further deletion and contact support promptly with the folder, account and time. Do not assume every deleted folder is moved intact to Trash.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
Earlier interface shown in the video
The old video uses More, then a folder's Delete action. It can remove the folder's messages as well.
