Quick answer
Configure notifications in your supported replacement mail app and operating system. A missing alert does not prove mail failed to arrive.
Applies to
Historical reference for the retired Windows Mail application, not current new Outlook. Microsoft ended Windows Mail, Calendar and People support on December 31, 2024. Preserve local data and move to a supported client; the old app is not a reliable current sending/receiving workflow.
Steps
- Confirm the mailbox is actually receiving messages in the current client or webmail.
- Review the replacement app's account-specific notification settings and the operating system's notification/quiet-mode permissions.
- Use a controlled incoming test to check the requested banner or sound.
Check the result
Compare actual arrival with the notification result and test while the app is in its normal background state.
Troubleshooting and support
If mail arrives without an alert, investigate notification permissions and focus/quiet settings. Do not reset mailbox credentials to troubleshoot only a banner.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
