Quick answer
Increase PuTTY's Lines of scrollback if you need to review more terminal output. Scrollback is temporary local display history, not a reliable backup or full session audit.
Applies to
For PuTTY on your own Windows computer and an account with authorized SSH access. Use the hosting service's assigned hostname, port and user. An ordinary cPanel account is not a root login; your service may use a nonstandard SSH port.
Steps
- Load the intended saved session in PuTTY configuration.
- Open Window and adjust Lines of scrollback to a reasonable value for your computer and privacy needs.
- Return to Session and Save. Open the session and test with harmless output from your own permitted directories.
Check the result
Scroll back to confirm more output remains available. Preserve a separate redacted diagnostic record when needed.
Troubleshooting and support
Avoid recursive listings of unrelated accounts or commands that expose secrets merely to fill the buffer. Closing/clearing a session can remove its scrollback.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
