Quick answer

An image can look correct in Files but crop differently in its theme section. Check the image shape and the section's display settings before replacing the source repeatedly.

Applies to

For the owner or authorized staff of the selected Shopify store, with the permissions needed for this task. Shopify hosts the store separately from a cPanel hosting account. Features and workflows depend on the current Shopify plan, theme and apps.

Before you begin

Keep an original copy of the image and identify every place it is reused. Preview theme display changes on an unpublished copy when possible.

What to do

  1. Compare the source image's aspect ratio with the space provided by the product grid, banner, or slideshow.
  2. Review the relevant theme section's media ratio, height, or adapt-to-image setting. Available controls depend on the theme and version.
  3. Where supported, set a focal point to keep the important subject in frame. For a grid, use consistent source ratios across the affected product images.
  4. Check the result at narrow and wide widths. For a tiny logo, inspect unused whitespace inside the file as well as the header size setting.

Check the result

Confirm that key product details and any text inside the artwork remain readable on phones. Check variant-specific media if only one option looks wrong.

If the problem continues

Send support the page URL, original image dimensions, theme version, and screenshots at both widths. If your theme lacks the required media control, a scoped theme adjustment may be needed.
