Gmail forwarding and POP/IMAP settings Print

Quick answer

Gmail forwarding, access to Gmail through IMAP/POP, and Gmail fetching a separate cPanel mailbox are different features. Google is phasing out third-party POP fetching and third-party Send as on the web by January 2027.

Applies to

For the intended Google/Gmail account. Google controls its login, settings and recovery. An Interactive Online cPanel login does not grant access to a Google account, and Gmail is separate from cPanel-hosted mail. The video shows an older interface.

Steps

  1. Identify whether you want to forward Gmail mail, connect a mail app to Gmail, or read an Interactive Online mailbox. Do not use Gmail server settings for a cPanel mailbox.
  2. For Gmail forwarding, open Settings > See all settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP where available. Add a destination you own, complete its verification and choose what happens to Gmail's copy.
  3. For a mail app connecting to Gmail, follow Google's current IMAP/POP and authentication instructions. Use the supported secure sign-in flow; never disable TLS to imitate the old video.
  4. For a cPanel mailbox, use its own secure IMAP/SMTP settings in a supported desktop client or the Gmail mobile app. Google's web POP-fetching and third-party Send as transition may restrict new configurations before their January 2027 removal.

Check the result

Test the intended route with controlled messages and confirm both receiving and sending identities. A forwarding confirmation does not prove SMTP sending from another provider.

Troubleshooting and support

If an old Gmail integration stops working or cannot be added, check Google's transition notice. Switching DNS or resetting the cPanel password will not restore a retired Google feature.

If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
