Quick answer
Remove the retired app's account entry only after preserving local data and verifying the replacement. This is separate from deleting the hosted mailbox.
Applies to
Historical reference for the retired Windows Mail application, not current new Outlook. Microsoft ended Windows Mail, Calendar and People support on December 31, 2024. Preserve local data and move to a supported client; the old app is not a reliable current sending/receiving workflow.
Steps
- Verify the recovery copy of local mail/contacts and confirm the correct server mailbox remains accessible.
- Complete supported-client migration and test required data and send/receive behavior.
- Review the old app's account/data-removal warning and remove only the intended local account entry when ready.
Check the result
Confirm the intended old entry was removed and required mail is available through the replacement and recovery copy.
Troubleshooting and support
If data exists only in the old application, use Microsoft's supported export guidance before removal. Do not delete the cPanel mailbox to finish a device migration.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
