Quick answer
A collection can be published while its expected products are excluded by membership rules. Review how the collection selects its items before altering the theme.
Applies to
For the owner or authorized staff of the selected Shopify store, with the permissions needed for this task. Shopify hosts the store separately from a cPanel hosting account. Features and workflows depend on the current Shopify plan, theme and apps.
Before you begin
Shopify is rolling out a new collections model with sources and conditions. Stores without it still use manual or smart collections. Follow the controls actually present in your admin and coordinate with other editors.
What to do
- Open Products > Collections and select the collection. Identify whether it uses sources and conditions or the legacy manual/smart model.
- For the new model, inspect each relevant Products, Variants, collection, or app source. Review inclusion conditions, selected items, and explicit exclusions.
- For a legacy manual collection, check the selected product list. For a legacy smart collection, compare the product details against its conditions and the any/all matching rule.
- Confirm that the collection and expected products are available to the intended sales channel. Save a narrow correction, then check the collection URL and its menu link.
Check the result
Test one product that should be included and one that should remain excluded. Also inspect any menu filter or third-party merchandising feature that changes the collection view.
If the problem continues
If the admin reports that the collection cannot be edited, note whether it was created in the mobile app during the collections rollout. Ask support for the current supported path instead of recreating it and breaking its URL.
