How to change your WHM password Print

  • 5

Quick answer

For a reseller login backed by the main cPanel account, a password change can affect both WHM and that cPanel login. Root and externally authenticated logins have different procedures.

Applies to

For an authorized reseller or administrator whose Interactive Online service includes the relevant WHM permission. Ordinary website hosting uses cPanel and does not imply WHM or root access. Work only with accounts you own or are explicitly authorized to administer. The video is an older interface reference.

Steps

  1. Confirm the identity and supported recovery path before changing the credential. Identify integrations that use it.
  2. Use Password Modification for your authorized reseller account, or its permitted cPanel Password & Security route. Set a strong unique replacement in the secure form.
  3. Update authorized saved credentials and complete a fresh sign-in through the trusted hostname. Keep the recovery route available.

Check the result

Test the intended WHM and cPanel access and affected integrations. Do not assume mailbox or database-user passwords changed.

Troubleshooting and support

If you are locked out or use external authentication, contact the account owner/provider. Keep both passwords out of the support request.

If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
