Quick answer
WordPress header controls depend on the active theme. The video's Appearance > Header screen applies only to themes that provide that classic header-image feature.
Applies to
For a WordPress site you are authorized to edit. Your WordPress role, installed theme, plugins and editor determine the available controls. Hosting access does not automatically establish WordPress administrator access. The video shows an older version.
Steps
- Identify the active theme and whether its header is controlled by the Site Editor, Customizer or an installed builder. Preserve the current header and recovery option.
- For a classic theme that supports it, use Appearance > Header or Customize. For a block theme, use Appearance > Editor and its header template part/pattern controls. Follow the actual theme's supported workflow.
- Choose an owned, appropriately sized image, review cropping and alt treatment, then preview the header before saving/publishing.
Check the result
Check desktop and phone layout, navigation and the public header in a fresh session. Confirm no unintended template-wide change.
Troubleshooting and support
If Header is missing, check the theme's documentation rather than installing an old theme to reproduce the video.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
