Quick answer
WordPress Settings control site identity, reading, discussion, media and URL behavior. Change only the setting needed for the task and record its old value.
Applies to
For a WordPress site you are authorized to edit. Your WordPress role, installed theme, plugins and editor determine the available controls. Hosting access does not automatically establish WordPress administrator access. The video shows an older version.
Steps
- Open the relevant Settings screen in the correct site. Review General, Writing, Reading, Discussion, Media or Permalinks as appropriate.
- Save a recovery copy and assess the effect before changing WordPress/Site Address or permalink structure. These can affect access, links and redirects.
- Make the intended change and choose Save Changes where offered. Check the configured time zone and search-engine visibility against the real site purpose.
Check the result
Reopen the setting and test the affected public/admin behavior. A setting saved successfully can still be wrong for the site.
Troubleshooting and support
If a URL change breaks access, stop repeated edits and contact support with the old/new values. Do not treat a development site's visibility settings as production defaults.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
