Quick answer
Claude chat can act through a supported connector, but it does not gain arbitrary SSH access from a domain name, a key pasted into chat, or a cPanel screenshot. A remote MCP connector can expose explicitly authorized website tools. That connection is separate from Claude Code's local terminal access.
Use Claude for the kind of change you need
Without a website tool, have Claude prepare the revision and apply it through your normal editor. With an approved remote connector, Claude can invoke the website operations that service actually exposes. Claude Code is useful for project/code work, but it is not required for a supported remote-connector conversation.
- Edit HTML files with ordinary chat
- Update WordPress text and images
- Update Joomla articles and menus
- Evaluate a Joomla MCP connection
Anthropic currently documents remote custom connectors on Free and paid plans, with one custom connector on Free. Workspace settings, client rollout, authentication, and the server tool list still determine access. Verify the current Claude connector instructions before setup.
Before you start
You need a compatible connector that actually supports the required read or write action, an eligible Claude account, and permission from the website owner. Interactive Online does not provide a general-purpose public cPanel MCP service merely because a hosting account includes cPanel.
What to do
- Decide whether the task needs website content editing, file deployment, or hosting administration. Select the narrowest appropriate interface.
- Review the connector's publisher, authentication, requested permissions, data processing, and supported actions before connecting it.
- Use account-specific authorization. Do not enter a hosting password or private SSH key into a chat message or an unreviewed connector form.
- Ask for a read-only inspection, then review the proposed changes and backup/recovery plan before enabling a write or publish action.
Check the result
Check the connector's tool list and verify the result in the website or CMS. A research/search connector may retrieve documentation without being able to edit a site.
If something does not work
If no suitable connector exists, use Claude Code locally, the CMS editor, or a reviewed development service. An MCP integration is a software and authorization project, not just a public URL field.
