Use the WordPress Pro skill with Codex or Claude Code Print

Quick answer

Use Jeff Allan's wordpress-pro skill to guide a focused WordPress development task, such as a small site plugin or child-theme change. Install the complete skill from the author's repository, work in an authorized local or staging project, and review both the code diff and the WordPress result before publishing.

Applies to

Interactive Online customers who need code changes to an existing WordPress website and have access to an AI coding tool and an approved development copy. WordPress Pro is an independently published MIT-licensed skill. It is separate from WordPress core, Elementor Pro, a hosting plan and a direct site connector. For a paragraph or picture, the existing page editor is usually the shorter route.

What the skill helps with

The publisher covers themes, plugins, Gutenberg blocks, WooCommerce, hooks, REST endpoints, performance and security patterns. Use the references relevant to your task rather than asking for an entire rebuild. A general WordPress skill does not establish support for a particular Elementor widget, Divi layout, checkout extension or third-party plugin.

1. Install from the author's source

  1. Open the WordPress Pro source folder linked below. Confirm the publisher is Jeffallan/claude-skills and the folder is skills/wordpress-pro. Review its instructions, reference folder and repository license.
  2. In Codex, ask $skill-installer to install that exact skill-folder URL. Have it check existing copies first. Install only WordPress Pro for this task rather than an unrelated full collection.
  3. In Claude Code, download the author's repository through GitHub's Code > Download ZIP or use an existing reviewed checkout. Extract outside the public website folder. Copy the whole wordpress-pro folder, including references, into the project's .claude/skills/ folder. Keep the license with any redistributed copy. The author also documents a larger marketplace bundle, which installs more than this one skill.
  4. Verify the loaded name and source path through your AI client's skill list. Follow its reload instructions if needed. Use the shared installation guide below for folder and duplicate-copy checks.

2. Describe one development task

Provide the affected URL, active editor/theme, WordPress and PHP versions, relevant plugin versions, and the behavior you expect. Share the minimum sanitized files needed. Give the assistant a specific editable folder and tell it how the result will be checked.

Use the wordpress-pro skill in this local WordPress project.
Inspect the active child theme and existing site plugin first.
Propose a change that adds an optional notice above one contact form.
Use the wording I provide. Preserve the form, URL and existing styles.
Show the intended files, hooks and verification steps before editing.
Do not change core or vendor files, send email, or publish.

3. Review the change in WordPress

  1. Keep matching files and database recovery material for the approved copy. Confirm that staging mail, payments and scheduled integrations cannot act on real customers.
  2. Review the proposed implementation. A supported hook, site plugin or child theme is preferable to changing a vendor file that its next update replaces.
  3. Inspect the actual diff. For privileged actions, check authorization and input handling. For a visible component, check its text, links, keyboard behavior and mobile layout.
  4. Run the checks supported by the project, such as PHP syntax, WordPress coding standards and relevant behavior tests. Record missing checks rather than treating an unavailable tool as a pass.
  5. Reopen the affected page in its normal editor and the public preview. Verify another page if a shared template or hook changed. Approve the precise production change only after this review.

Troubleshooting and recovery

If the assistant edits the wrong content store, identify whether the page uses blocks, Divi, Elementor or a plugin-generated view, then use that workflow. If a suggested API is unavailable, compare it with the installed versions and official reference. If a change fails, restore the affected approved files or page revision first. Replacing the whole production database can overwrite newer orders, inquiries and user changes.

When to contact support

Contact Interactive Online when the hosting account, WordPress installation, document root or available access method is unclear. Provide the affected page URL, tool and plugin versions, time and time zone, and the exact redacted error. Exclude passwords, Application Passwords, keys, tokens, cookies and customer records. Skill publishers handle their own installation defects and feature requirements; AI subscriptions, paid builders and connector licenses are separate from hosting.
