Quick answer
Optimize only the CSS/JavaScript features your site needs. Test one change at a time; enabling every aggregation, inline or script-placement option can break a working site.
Applies to
For a WordPress site you are authorized to edit. Your WordPress role, installed theme, plugins and editor determine the available controls. Hosting access does not automatically establish WordPress administrator access. The video shows an older version.
Steps
- Back up the site and review the current theme, cache and CDN configuration. Test on protected staging where available.
- Install/activate the official Autoptimize plugin through Plugins > Add New Plugin if appropriate. Open its settings.
- Change one selected optimization, save and clear the relevant cache. Add a narrow exclusion when a specific script or stylesheet requires it; do not blindly copy the old video's inline-all-CSS or force-scripts-in-head settings.
- Check any CDN integration against the actual service and avoid enabling duplicate optimization in several tools.
Check the result
Test navigation, editing, forms, login and any checkout flow, then compare useful performance measurements.
Troubleshooting and support
If a script or layout breaks, restore the last working option and identify the specific asset rather than enabling error suppression to hide the problem.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
