Quick answer
Back up both WordPress files and its database, retain an independent protected copy, and test recovery. A scheduled job or local archive alone is not enough recovery evidence.
Applies to
For a WordPress site you are authorized to edit. Your WordPress role, installed theme, plugins and editor determine the available controls. Hosting access does not automatically establish WordPress administrator access. The video shows an older version.
Steps
- Install/activate the official plugin if it fits the existing backup arrangement. Review the site's required files, database, exclusions and storage capacity.
- Choose appropriate file/database schedules and retention. Configure a supported secure remote destination with credentials stored only in protected settings; Interactive Online no longer provides FTP access. If this hosting account is the transfer endpoint, use a supported SFTP method; for offsite backup, select an approved encrypted destination supported by your plugin and service. Keep a recovery copy and do not assume an old FTP option is available.
- Run a controlled Backup Now job including the required components. Inspect completion/logs and independently retrieve the archive parts.
- Test restoration on an isolated copy before a major live change. Treat Restore, Clone/Migrate and settings reset as separate consequential operations.
Check the result
Confirm complete readable files and database copies plus a representative isolated restore. Keep recovery copies outside public web access.
Troubleshooting and support
For incomplete or failed jobs, review capacity, exclusions, credentials and the exact error. Do not wipe settings or restore over the live site simply to test the plugin.
If the problem continues, contact support from the account that owns the service. Include the domain, exact error, time and time zone, tool name, and a redacted screenshot. Keep passwords, private keys, cookies and private message content out of the ticket.
