Quick answer

Use the order's refund action for an approved partial repayment. Review the amount, payment method, shipping, tax, and restocking choices before confirming because a refund is a real financial action.

Applies to

For the owner or authorized staff of the selected Shopify store, with the permissions needed for this task. Shopify hosts the store separately from a cPanel hosting account. Features and workflows depend on the current Shopify plan, theme and apps.

Before you begin

Confirm the requested remedy and your refund permission. Inspect the Timeline and existing refunds first. If goods are being returned, create the return before refunding those items.

What to do

  1. Open the order and choose Refund. Select the applicable item quantities or approved amount using the controls available for that order.
  2. Review shipping separately if you intend to refund it. Check the calculated total and currency instead of assuming that an item refund covers every charge.
  3. Select the correct restocking outcome and refund destination offered by Shopify. Choose customer notification deliberately.
  4. Confirm once, then inspect the saved refund result. Do not submit another refund merely because the customer has not yet seen the money in their bank account.

Check the result

Check the order's remaining paid amount, refund status, Timeline, and inventory. Give the customer the provider's expected processing guidance rather than promising immediate bank settlement.

If the problem continues

Refund availability and timing depend on the payment method and order. For a failed or unavailable refund, contact the relevant payment provider or Shopify Support with the order and transaction reference. Do not collect card details in an ordinary support message.
