Microsoft has officially launched Bing Deep Search, an optional generative AI feature designed to assist users with complex queries that do not have straightforward answers. This feature, which was initially announced in December 2023, utilizes Bing’s index and GPT-4 to provide more tailored and in-depth search results. After a brief period of testing, Bing Deep Search is now fully live for all users, who can access it by clicking on the Deep Search button at the top of the search results page.

According to Jordi Ribas from Microsoft, Deep Search leverages Bing’s existing index and GPT-4 to expand and enhance queries, determine possible intents, and provide enhanced results based on the user’s selected option. Michael Schechter confirmed that this feature is now available to all users, unlike its previous limited release.

Deep Search works by using Bing’s web index and ranking system to analyze query intents and variations, producing descriptions and results that may not typically appear in regular search results. The relevance and quality of the results are determined by factors such as topic match, level of detail, credibility of the source, freshness, and popularity of the page.

However, one drawback of Deep Search is its slower loading time, with Microsoft acknowledging that it may take up to 30 seconds to complete a search. Despite this, the feature appears to run more smoothly and faster than in its earlier stages, offering a new approach to utilizing AI for search results.

It remains to be seen whether Bing Deep Search will drive more clicks compared to other AI-driven search features like Bing Chat or Google Bard. Users are encouraged to give it a try and assess its usefulness based on their search preferences and requirements.
